Who I am
Between the years 1997 and 2010, I worked at number 86 Hospital road, Bury St. Edmunds as a support worker for Individuals with mental health difficulties. During the last few years at this post, I qualified as a social worker through the Open University.
From 2010 - 2012 I worked for Suffolk County Council (SCC) in various community mental health teams. Including, Thetford, Newmarket and Stowmarket.
In 2012, I left SCC and completed two years as an independent social worker assessing people for the Independent Living Fund (ILF). I also completed F1 assessments at this time for By The Bridge Fostering Agency.
The ILF closed in 2015 and I returned to SCC to complete the ILF project. Where people in receipt of ILF funding were transferred over to SCC. When this project came to a close in 2016/2017 I stayed with SCC and begun a two year post in the Learning Disabilities and Autism team - based in Landmark House, Ipswich.
In 2018, I left statutory social work and I begun working for myself as a private home carer. Working for myself enabled me to offer a holistic service to people. The majority of my work currently is with the elderly and I cover local rural areas. Around 2017/2018 I began a holistic program working as a private wellbeing mentor using different approaches and tools picked up during my career. This work involves using the outdoors, the changing seasons, art, craft and animals. I have three horses and a rescue dog who assist me in this work. My approach is completely centred around the individual and the area they feel they need help with. I support people to raise their self esteem, learn anxiety management techniques and help with depression.
I have worked with people of all ages using these approaches, both children and adults. I have worked with children who are home schooled; exploring with them areas such as social skills, confidence building and goal setting.
I do not profess to be the expert. Each individual is the expert in their own lives. Each person is completely unique and I do not have a magic wand. I can however offer: focus, timeout and skills to work in a bespoke person centred manner to meet people where they are and help them realise their dreams, however big or small.
Together we will use mindfulness techniques to look forward to accept and love who you are and who you want to be.
I believe in you already.
